Conference Host Committee
Johnna Agin, Co-Chair
Susan Nabors, Co-Chair

The annual conference is just around the corner and the Host Committee members are very excited to share with you the outcome of many months of planning.  This year’s conference will be June 24-28, 2017 at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.  Be sure to register for the conference and plan to attend the many fun events.

The Conference Host Committee has held numerous conference calls over the past several months and we are now putting on our final touches for the events. If you are a golfer, make sure to register for the golf tournament scheduled for Sunday morning.  Zumba is a fun way to kick off your day and get your blood pumping so check that out on Sunday morning.  The Hospitality Suite is an opportunity to network with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere and perhaps show off your dancing and singing skills.  The Tuesday Night Event will be a night of Hollywood glamour with food, live entertainment, photo opportunities and much more!  Dress up like a Hollywood star from the 20s, 30s, 40s or today and walk the red carpet to what is sure to be a great extravaganza!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Host Committee members for your dedication and creativity in planning this year’s conference activites.  Also, we could not have pulled this all together without the assistance of the Board Liaison, Shannon Ramsey-Chessman.  Enjoy the conference!

The development and organization of the 2017 School of Governmental Finance is off to a great start!  This team is very creative and we are very excited and hope you will be able to join us at the 2017 School of Governmental Finance being held at the Omni in Jacksonville Florida from October 23-27, 2017.  The Committee has put together just the right theme for this year “Lifting up Emerging Leaders” and we are working on getting some great new speakers and topics for our members.

As always, if you want to join our committee, be a speaker, or if you have a presentation idea, we would still love to hear from you!  Please contact Jennifer Desrosiers at jdesrosiers@cityofnorthport.com or any committee member for assistance.

Watch for additional details and please make plans to join us at the 2017 School of Governmental Finance!

Webinar Committee
Brandy Ferris, Committee Chair

The Webinar Committee met for the first time at the annual Florida Government Finance Officers’ Association conference that was held in June 2016. There was a great turnout for the meeting, with only a few members unable to attend. After that meeting, the Committee was off to a great start.

The webinar schedule was soon finalized and approved by the Board. The Committee has successfully completed the following webinars, each with close to or more than 300 participants:

Florida Benchmarking Consortium

FLSA Changes and Standards Update

Financial Advising - Debt or Cash?

IT Controls

CRC and Healthcare Reform Act

GFOA Budget Award

Legislative Update

The next webinar will be held on July 20, 2017, and will cover the FGFOA’s Government Resource Manual. We will close out the year with a webinar intended to assist local governments with determining where their fiduciary responsibility begins and ends. This webinar will be held on August 17, 2017.

I think this year has been a great one, full of educational and networking opportunities. Both the Committee and I look forward to finishing the year on a high note and continuing to serve the FGFOA Membership in the future.
