Assistant Director of Finance
Salary Range: $63,564.80 - $97,240.00 Annually

The Assistant Director of Finance should possess solid communication, technology, organizational and analytical skills. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance and is responsible for providing advanced professional and administrative accounting and financial analysis. Responsibility involves the application of professional governmental accounting principles, practices, and techniques and is responsible for managing operational data and ensuring data integrity and accuracy, as well as assisting in the development of operational procedures and documentation of data flow. Responsibilities include the preparation of complex financial reports and statements and various accounting transactions. Work is performed with considerable independence under administrative direction.
Prepares special analyses and fiscal reports as requested; provides technical assistance to supporting departments; explains accounting procedures and reports to auditors assisting in the examination of financial statements.
Calculates and prepares journal entries and reconciles accounts in the general ledger.
May facilitate and complete monthly close procedures.
Performs duties involving development and coordination of company-wide budget. Prepares schedules and worksheets, along with estimating projections of annual expenses and revenues.
Performs monthly balance sheet, income statement and changes in financial position/budget variance analyses.
Manages and coordinates the project accounting subsidiary ledger for the Capital Improvement Program.
Assists with the assessment of internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
Applies professional and technical knowledge relating to auditing, accounting, and data processing concepts for the assigned financial operation.
Confers with members of other departments regarding departmental financial matters; facilitates the resolution of problems and the development of coordinated policies.
Actively participates in decision-making sessions with upper level management; makes suggestions and recommendations and supplies factual accounting data which effectively contributes to the decision or policy-making process.
Participates in the development of the annual budget to include assisting in the design and preparation of the published document.
Participates with the investment function, monitoring and recording transactions involving both the long-term and short-term portfolios.
May serve as project manager for any system implementation or upgrades to the financial software application.
May include some supervisory duties of accounting staff.
Performs other duties as required.
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in accounting or finance. (Educational documentation will be requested upon offer of employment.)
At least seven years of professional accounting experience. Utilities industry or governmental agency experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Public Accountant (preferably in the State of Florida, but at a minimum be eligible for reciprocity) and/or Certified Government Finance Officer preferred.
Possession of or ability to obtain a Florida Driver License upon offer of employment.
